An ABS & IPAA Partnership course
The course introduces participants to the basics of identifying,
accessing and using statistics to support informed decision-making. The
course will discuss: how to identify what data is needed; what types of
data are available; how to assess data for quality and relevancy; how to
find and access ABS data; and the fundamentals of good data
presentation.
Course Content
o Determining the research question and related data needs
o The different types of data
o Introduction to the ABS Data Quality Framework
o Identifying data sources
o Accessing data from the ABS web site
o Fundamentals of data presentation
Course Outcomes
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
o Identify the research question;
o Identify what data is required to meet a defined need;
o Knowledge of the ABS Data Quality framework and how to apply
this to assess data quality and evaluate possible data sources in the
context of a data need;
o Awareness of how to access data from the ABS web site;
o Understanding of good data presentation
