JOB DESCRIPTION:
The position incumbent supports the Manager, Financial Accounting in undertaking the development and review of accrual accounting and, financial management policies and procedures and associated corporate manuals. The position prepares the financial statements and the central agency accounting returns, internal management reports and other reports within the Branch’s project based environment.
The position provides advice and support to other branches throughout the agency on the implementation of financial management policies and procedures and best practice financial management techniques as required. The position also maintains the financial master data of the financial systems including the completion of the month end and year-end processes and, contributes to the provision of financial training across the agency.
The position incumbent supports the Manager, Financial Accounting in ensuring agency compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, the Financial Administration and Audit Act, Regulations and Treasurer’s Instructions (FAAA) and other applicable legislation. In addition the position monitors financial system compliance and provides advice to the Financial Systems Branch in ensuring that system changes comply with relevant legislation and the financial reporting requirements.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
Possession of a relevant tertiary qualification and/or eligibility for membership to a professional accounting body.
Communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
Analytical and conceptual skills
Supervisory skills
Experience in financial management within a medium to large organisation
Experience with the application of accrual accounting and Australian Accounting Standards
Knowledge of financial legislation impacting upon State Public Sector agencies
Experience in the use of a personal computer
