JOB DESCRIPTION:
An opportunity exists for a suitably qualified technical officer to join the Network Administration team within Desktop & Network Services based at Midland. Expressions of Interest are sought from officers interested acting in the above position from the 16th February 2004 until the 23rd April 2004. The end date is subject to a branch restructure and there is a possibility that the period may be extended.
The key responsibilities of the position include:
 Administer the Departments Local Area Network, monitoring for availability and performance and reporting on problems or issues when encountered or predicted.
 Provides prompt resolution of network issues, and assists with desktop support related problems.
 Develops, maintains and implements documentation and procedures for the Local Area Network and supported applications in line with the Departments Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity and Security policies.
 Liaise with vendors, contractors and service providers where necessary to develop, maintain and implement services and procedures.
 Liaise with customers to resolve and provide advice on network and IT related issues.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
Applicants should provide evidence of competency in the following areas:
 The ability to build and maintain positive relationships with customer and service groups.
 Sound interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
 Well developed verbal and written communication skills.
 Demonstrated technical ability in the administration of Network Operating Systems and support of network devices with particular emphasis on Windows NT Server & Workstation and TCP/IP based Local Area Networks
 Demonstrated ability in the use and support of specialist Network and Server support tools and utilities
