Four (4) months, commencing approximately June 2003.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Superintendent will be responsible for ensuring a safe, secure and efficient operation of Bandyup Women's Prison. The Superintendent will be expected to take a team approach towards meeting the aims of the Public Prisons Directorate and the Prisons Division: custody of prisoners, duty of care, reparation and reduction in re-offending. The Superintendent is also expected to be an effective communicator with the community and other relevant stakeholders.
The Superintendent will implement policy and programs to facilitate the successful reintegration of women through re-entry programs. To reduce the likelihood of re-offending, programs will address the issue of skills acquisition as well as providing strategies to assist women to deal with social and health issues that may limit their economic independence. Programs will address the specific roles and responsibilities of women as carers and providers, empowering them, through education, skills acquisition and emotional support.
The Superintendent will ensure that female prisoners are managed in a culturally appropriate manner that recognises the social issues that may have contributed to offending and would affect the success of rehabilitation programs.

* Policy Initiation and Development;
* Strategic Planning and Thinking;
* Relationship Building and Networking;
* A high level of knowledge of contemporary issues and best practice regarding the management of female offenders in custody; and
* Knowledge of the social, education and health issues that may affect female prisoners and how these impact on the trends of female offending.
