DISABILITY SERVICES COMMISSION
Employee Relations Consultant
Level 5 $51,884 to $57,342
6-month secondment or fixed-term contract to cover an employee on leave.
The position is available immediately and there may be a possibility of
extension.
The primary focus of the Disability Services Commission is to make a
positive difference to the lives of people with disabilities, their families
and carers. The Commission employs approximately 2000 staff across six
Directorates in both metropolitan and regional locations throughout the
State.
We are looking for an enthusiastic team player, with a strong work ethic to
join our employee relations team. This would be a valuable opportunity for
someone with experience in an industrial relations environment and an
interest in improving the lives of people with disabilities. Qualifications
in a relevant field will be highly regarded.
Some of the duties of the position include:
With direction but limited guidance -
* respond to written and verbal requests for interpretation of
awards, agreements and industrial legislation;
* liaise with unions, government departments and other stakeholders;
* assist in formal investigations into performance and discipline
related issues;
* assist in negotiations with the unions covering employees of the
Commission;
* participate in joint union/employer forums e.g. consultative and
bargaining committees;
* assist in the preparation of briefing notes on industrial issues
for stakeholders including the Minister, Director General, Board and
Corporate Executive; and
* assist in the provision of training to line managers on employee
relations issues.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential
Demonstrated:
* Ability to interpret award/agreement provisions and industrial
legislation and provide advice on the application of these.
* Knowledge and understanding of industrial legislation, procedures
and practices.
* Research, analysis and reporting skills.
* Well developed communication skills including written, verbal,
interpersonal and negotiation skills.
* Positive and contemporary attitude towards people with
disabilities.
Desirable
* Qualification in a relevant area or progress towards.
