APPOINTMENT POOL
The Policy and Education Directorate currently has three Policy Officer positions available. These positions have become available as the substantive occupants are acting elsewhere. The duration ranges from three months with the possibility of an extension. Applicants not appointed to the positions, but are deemed suitable for appointment, will be placed in a pool from which they may be appointed to other full time Policy Officer positions as they arise. The pool will be effective for 6 months from the date of finalisation of the selection report.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Policy Officer is responsible for formulating, implementing and evaluating consumer protection policy and legislation in relation to industry areas within the Western Australian marketplace.
SELECTION CRITERIA

* Demonstrated skills and experience in policy development, implementation and evaluation.
* Demonstrated planning and project management skills.
* Demonstrated research and analytical skills.
* Demonstrated ability to develop innovative solutions to complex problems.
* Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to work cooperatively with others at all levels.
* Demonstrated skills in consultation and negotiation.
* Demonstrated commitment to the achievement of a customer focus to ensure that the needs of clients are met.
* Demonstrated well-developed oral and written communication skills.
Desirable:
* Knowledge of the Department's role, initiatives and policies.
* An understanding of the legislative frameworks that apply to fair trading.
