DURATION: 3 months

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Provides high level support, advice, management and representation on native title matters for consideration for the Office of Native Title.

***The Office of Native Title of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet invites expressions of interest from suitable applicants for this challenging acting/secondment opportunity for a period of 3 months.

Permanent public sector employees will be considered on a secondment/acting basis so please check with your department/supervisor for possible release prior to submitting your application**

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
Relevant Skills and Abilities
Highly developed conceptual, analytical and decision-making skills.

High level written and oral communication skills.

Demonstrated negotiation skills and proven ability to effectively liaise with senior officers and key
stakeholders in both the public and private sectors.

A willingness to undertake travel as required.

Work Experience
Experience in complex case management.

Experience in supervising staff, and working in a team environment.

Relevant Knowledge
Good working knowledge of the Native Title Act and a good understanding of the processes arising out of that legislation, in particular the future act regime.

Good working knowledge of State legislation relevant to dealings in land and titles administration.

Awareness of Government policies and priorities relevant to native title.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:
Tertiary qualifications in law, social science or other relevant discipline.

Good understanding of the process of government policy development.

Awareness of issues facing Aboriginal communities generally.
