Expressions of interest are invited for the above position

        DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

        The Compliance Officer investigates complaints in accordance with the Department's policies to determine compliance with the provisions of the Fair Trading Act, the Consumer Affairs Act and other legislation administered by the Department of Consumer and Employment Protection, Consumer Protection division. As a part of a team delivering an holistic compliance program related to a particular industry area the compliance officer will be prepare reports, briefs of evidence in relation to offences or breaches, and present evidence in tribunal hearing or before courts. The officer will advise customers on matters relating to Consumer Protection legislation and may be required to conciliate disputes between consumers and traders.

        ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

                * Demonstrated experience in investigating matters relating to compliance with legislation and/or other forms of regulation.

                * Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation to identify breaches and offences.

                * Working knowledge of the investigative process and skills in the collection, collation, organisation and presentation of information for courts and tribunals.

                * Demonstrated ability to conciliate customer issues.

                * Demonstrated interpersonal skills to work cooperatively, both in a team and a customer environment, including skills in consultation, interviewing and negotiation.
