JOB DESCRIPTION:
1. Works with patients under the guidance of the Senior Occupational Therapist
2. Prepares materials, tools and equipment for gardening and other related programmes
3. Ensures the accountability and safe keeping of materials, tools and equipment used in occupational therapy programs
4. Assists and encourages patients to undertake activities of daily living
5. Observes and reports to Occupational Therapist on behaviour and progress of patients
6. Organises social functions for patients
7. Maintains attendance records
8. Maintains orderliness of treatment areas and storage facilities
9. Prepares orders for arts and crafts materials when required
10. Receives money from sale of goods when required
11. Attends in service continuing education courses
12. Participates in quality improvement and internal audit activities
13. Participates in own performance management based on current Job Specification
14. Undertakes other duties as required
15. Familiarises oneself with the Health Care Service's policies and procedures including OS&H, EEO, Disability Service, Code of Conduct, Code of Ethics and Public Sector Standards.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
1. Certificate of Secondary Education (Year 10 ) or equivalent.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of workshop, rehabilitation and recreational activities.
3. Demonstrated experience in gardening and other work orientated activities.
4. Good communication skills both written and oral.
5. Good interpersonal skills.
6. Current E Class Driver’s Licence.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA:
1. Previous experience in working with clients with mental illness
2. First Aid Certificate

5 months temporary appointment, with possibility of extension
Applications are invited from suitably skilled and experienced persons who are interested in the above opportunity to provide leave relief from January 2004 for a period of 5 months with possible extension.
SALARY: $32,431 - $36,091 per annum in accordance with Hospital Salaried Officers Metropolitan Health Services Enterprise Agreement 2001.
DUTIES: Responsible for providing assists to patients within the Primary Rehabilitation Unit to learn and practice gardening skills, under the direction of a Senior Occupational Therapist.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
· Demonstrated knowledge of workshop, rehabilitation and recreational activities
· Demonstrated experience in gardening and other work orientated activities
· Well developed communication skills both written and oral
· Good interpersonal skills.

LOCATION: Mt Claremont.
HOURS/DAYS: 76 hours per fortnight.
